Junior Matches 2023 - Round 2

On 1st July Nottinghamshire had two matches to play at the Westwood Golf Club, Leek, Staffs.  It was an early start for us all and the team of Captain Jorja Newbold, Lizzie Wilson, Millie Marsh and foursomes pairing of Amelia Hogg and Lexi Williams-Green, put out a great showing against Derbyshire in the morning with a decisive 4:0 win.  The course was testing with a very hilly front 9 and some difficult and watery holes on the back 9.

The afternoon saw Notts out again, but this time against a fresh Shropshire team.  Unfortunately Staffordshire was unable to field a team, so neither Derbyshire or Shropshire played 36 holes that day.  However, the Nottinghamshire girls were up for the challenge, with wins for Jorja and Lizzie, with Millie’s match going down to the final putt on the 18th to give us a 2:2 draw in the match.

It was a great show from all the girls in testing conditions over a difficult course.  Well played all – we need to beat Shropshire to win the overall title.

Congratulations Amelia Wan!

Amelia Wan Home InternationalsCongratualtions to Amelia Wan who was selected to play for England in the Girls Home Internationals, played at Lindrick GC from 8th to 10th August 2023. The England Girls team won the competition with resounding wins over Scotland, Wales and then Ireland. It was a particularly remarkable tournament for Amelia Wan, Lili-Rose Hunt and Nellie Ong. The trio won all six of the games they played across the three days, meaning they racked up all six points available.

Women’s & Girls’ Assistant Performance Manager India Clyburn said: “It’s been a great watch and a great tournament for the girls. Today there was a lot of good golf so we had to win a lot of holes with birdies. Special mention must go to Nellie, Lili and Amelia for securing all six points but it really was an outstanding performance from the entire team. We’re very pleased and proud of them all.”

Well done Amelia!

Junior Matches 2023 - Round 1

Notts Junior Girls played two scratch matches at Lincoln Golf Club on 25th June, the team of Jorja Newbold, Millie Marsh, Amelia Hogg, Maddison Clarke and Lexi Williams-Green, had a convincing 3:1 win over Lincolnshire in their first match.

Unfortunately Leicestershire and Rutland were only able to field 3 players for the afternoon match so only Jorja, Millie and Maddison were out in the afternoon.  The girls pulled out great wins on the 18th hole, so with the byes, we won 3 ½ : ½.

This year the scratch team are playing 3 single matches and a foursomes, in order to prepare the girls for county week, where many of them will go on to represent the county ladies team in years to come.

Well done girls a great start to the season.

Girls & Intermediate Championships 2023

champs23The Championships were held at Oakmere Golf Club on Sunday 7th May 2023. Congratulations to all entrants on a great day of golf.  Oakmere Golf Club put on fantastic weather and a tough challenge for both the 18 Hole championships on the Admirals Course and the 9 hole championship on the Commanders course. It was fantastic to see so many players on a bank holiday weekend with the coronation bunting out to wave them on.

Congratulations to Amelia Wan who took the first scratch and net prizes, fresh from her successes in the England team against Spain earlier in the week.  Junior Captain Jorja took second place in the scratch competition with Maddison Clarke taking second net.  Millie Browne took the Bronze division scratch trophy and the Handicap cup.  U16 Scratch went to Elizabeth Wilson and U14 Scratch to Millie Marsh.

Handicap Match v Leics 2023

mascot 1Rushcliffe Golf Club hosted the Junior Handicap Match vs Leicestershire and Rutland on 23 April.  The forecast was grim and the rain had been torrential, but Rushcliffe managed to keep the course open and playable for the girls.  The rain held off until the last few holes and in the end it was an incredibly close game with all 5 games going to the 18th green.  Nottinghamshire narrowly lost 2:3, it could easily have gone either way.

Well done to the team of Captain, Emily Toft-Brown, Freya Keal, Mya Neal, Millie Browne, Holly Wilson and reserve Emily Wood.  A very special mention to Holly and Emily Wood who both debuted for the team in this fixture.  Emily also played her first competitive 18 hole round in the reserve match.

An excellent result from a new team of players.  Proud of you girls.

Suzi and Georgie

Handicap Match v Lincs 2023

Handicap v LincsCongratulations to the Junior Girls Handicap team on playing in very windy and testing conditions at Lincoln Golf Club today.  The result was a narrow defeat of 2:3 against Lincolnshire, with the first match going to the last hole, but was a great showing by a young team against girls very much older and more experienced.  Well done to everyone, especially those playing their first county match.  Our next match is against Leicestershire and Rutland later in the month and the team are raring to go.

Well done girls.
