Junior Girls Squad Training & Development

The Junior Committee would like to wish a Happy New Year to all Junior girls and their parents.
We start the new year by sadly saying goodbye to Dan Parkes (5 years) and John Vaughan who has been coaching our girls for a brilliant 20 years. We thank them so much for their hard work and know that they will be sorely missed.

However we are delighted to welcome Richard Strange as our new NCLGA Junior Girls Squad Training and Development Leader. Our first session will be on WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 13th from 6-8pm at NORWOOD PARK. Then every second Wednesday evening of the month, up until September.
All interested Notts Junior girls are invited to come and chat, discuss a few new rules, drink hot chocolate and we may even hit a few golf balls!!!

We will also be having a New Kit this year but we will need the old one back first. So please bring it with you. We are looking forward to seeing you all again and if you would please email me to say you are attending that would be very helpful for numbers.

Junior Newsletter - A busy start to April!

MapperleyPaddyThe first match of the season, and first outing for Paddy the mascot, was the 2nd Team friendly against Mapperley Ladies, which was played on Thursday 11th April. This resulted in a 3-0 win for the juniors. Well done to all who played and many thanks to Mapperley GC for their hospitality and continued support of the junior section.

Amelia2The Nottinghamshire Schools championships were held at Sherwood Forest GC on Friday 12th April. It was a brilliant day with 11 entries from girls. The gross winner was Amelia Wan and the nett winner was Jorja Newbold.  Amelia, Jorja and Maddie Smith will go forward to represent Notts in the Midlands Competition. There was also  a hole in one for Lexi Williams-Green! It was a week of tumbling handicaps - the girls have worked so hard on their game over the winter.

Jorja was also the winner of the Stanedge Junior masters this week - well done! Check out all the photographs at the end of this article.

First Squad Training of 2019

SquadTraining2There was an excellent atmosphere at the first Squad Training of the year. Girls of all abilities and experience met to chat and catch up before they attacked the driving range. Richard Strange our County coach wasn't phased by the excitement but found that an awful lot of golf balls were used by 24 girls desperate to get a ball through the rugby posts!! Geoff the barman was great and never batted an eyelid when I asked for '26 hot chocolates in five minutes time please'.

NewKit2Our new Junior Captain Lucy, modelled the new kit so look out for us on the course in our bright red shirts. My special thanks to Suzi Anderson, Maureen and Michael Clarke, Di Payne, Richard Strange for their help and support, and once again thanks to our parents with their amazing offers of help in the year to come.

The next session will be on Wednesday 13th March. All the girls who attended this week will be notified which group they will be in. Group 1 will be 6-7.30 and Group 2 will be 6.30 - 8 pm. If you missed the training by any chance please just come at 6pm you will be made most welcome.

Happy Golfing.

Junior Jubilee & Presentation Evening 2018

The weather was wild, wet and windy, but spirits were high for all the competitors in the Junior Jubilee; 3 teams set off for 18 holes of AM/AM competition at Norwood Park and battled the conditions to produce some very creditable scores. While the more experienced players were out on the main course, two groups went out onto the Par 3, with 3 players in the 9 hole competition and our new juniors playing 5 holes from the EZ tees.

The rain and the cold got the better of us and the competition was shortened, but credit goes to the 5 hole team who managed to complete their course! A few girls took the opportunity to play a couple of extra holes – won by Lucy Holbough, but hot chocolate and a warm clubhouse was definitely welcomed by most. The winning team of Charlie Inger, Madeleine Smith, Lexi Williams-Green and Molly Campbell scored a fantastic 42 points, well done to all who played. The 9 hole competition was won by Maddison Clarke and Tamara Kubba won the 5 hole competition. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to Norwood Park Golf Centre for hosting the event and providing tee times.
