2nd Team Away Match v Lincolnshire 2017

LincsAway17aOur away match v Lincolnshire took place on 6th July at Kenwick Park on a lovely sunny day. All of the morning foursomes went to the 18th with Vicki Johnson, making her 2nd team debut, and playing partner Jacey Peacock winning 2 up. Leonie Muir partnering Emma Anderson and the final pairing of Kristina Lazarevic and Laura Abbott both earning battling halves, giving Nottinghamshire a lunchtime lead of 2-1.

In the afternoon singles, as the temperature rose, Jacey closed out her match early 6&5 with Leonie Muir, another debutant, winning 4&3. The other four matches were very close, Laura narrowly beaten on the 18th, Kristina halving the last hole to win 1up with Vicki and Emma both achieving well fought halves.

The result was a 6-3 win to Nottinghamshire. Well done to all of the team, a great start to our 2nd team season continuing the Nottinghamshire momentum from County Week. We all look forward to our next match at home against Lincolnshire later this month.

Coronation Cups 2017

The County Coronation Cups competition was played in very wet and windy conditions at Rufford Park on 5th June. For many years, this competition has been played in a foursomes format, but this year for the first time it was played as a better-ball, clearly much more popular as we had entries from 46 teams compared to 29 last year. There were a few last-minute withdrawals, not too surprising given the very difficult conditions, and in the end 42 pairs braved the weather on the day.

The winners with a magnificent 41 points were 13-year-old Rebecca Oates from Worksop and 10-year-old Amelia Wan from Rufford Park. It was great to see some of our talented youngsters taking part in this County competition and playing so well on the day. They will be presented with the Coronation Cups at the AGM in November. Coming a close second with 40 points were Audrey MacMillan and Sue Lockwood from Norwood Park, winning on the back 9 from Andrea Stockdale and Sue Penfold from Sherwood Forest. In fourth place, also winning on the back 9, were Carol Wild and Jo Hopkins from Notts Ladies. Congratulations to all our winners and to everyone who took part. Players from 18 different clubs participated and, despite the very wet and windy conditions, there were lots of smiley faces in the clubhouse throughout the day.

County Championship & Spring Meeting 2017

Finalists17aWollaton Park Golf Club was the venue for the NCLGA 2017 Spring Meeting and County Championship which took place over the weekend 12th – 14th May. The course was presented beautifully and was in excellent condition, with some fantastic scores being recorded. On Friday, the waterproofs came into use as there were a few heavy showers during the day, but the rest of the weekend was largely sunny and breezy and the spectators were treated to a great display of golf.
The weekend started with two competitions being run on Friday. The Spring Meeting 18-hole competition took place in the morning, with a further round in the afternoon making up the 36-hole qualifying competition for the Championship, with the top 8 gross scores going through to a match-play competition over the weekend.
Young talent shone through in Spring Meeting, with the two best nett scores of the morning going to two thirteen year olds. Rebecca Oates from Worksop recorded a nett 65, a full 7 shots below her handicap of 20 to win Spring Meeting, while Leonie Muir from Wollaton Park followed with a nett 69 to claim the runner-up prize. Wonderful scores from our future young stars.

County Waltz 2017

Waltzwinners17bTemperatures plummeted for the first fixture of the season as 31 teams of ladies took part in the annual County Waltz, on 26th April at Stanton. Everyone was well wrapped up in winter hats and windproof jackets as they battled the wind and occasional hail during the day. But the cold weather did not dampen the spirits of the players and there were lots of smiling faces and rosy cheeks in the clubhouse at the end of the round.
The winning score of 72 points was shared by three teams, so the prizes were calculated on countback. The overall winners of the day were Jean Durbin and Jo Hopkins from Notts Ladies and Fran Tunnicliffe from Stanton. In second place, County Captain Helen Maber with Carol Bancroft, both from Beeston Fields, and Cathy Burnside (Stanton) and in third place a Stanton team of Jan Hooley, Pam Musson and Jane Harby. Well done to all the winners and to all who took part and battled the elements and thanks to everyone for their generous support of the raffle.
Our thanks go to Stanton on the Wolds Golf Club for letting us have the course for this early season fund-raiser and for looking after us so well on the day and to Lady Captain Irene Herod and her helpers for manning the half-way house to provide a very welcome hot drink during the round. Thanks too to all the County officials and to past-President Joan Underwood for their wonderful help both behind the scenes and on the desk. The day was a huge success and a great start to the 2017 season.
