County Championship & Spring Meeting 2018

Libby 2This year the County Championship and Spring Meeting was held at Stanton On The Wolds Golf Club over the weekend 11th-13th May. The course was in excellent condition with the greens proving to be very challenging not only in speed but also with some strategically placed pin positions. The weather was dry and bright but there was a chilly breeze making conditions difficult. We had 18 players taking part in the County Championship playing 36 holes, with the top 8 going through to knockout stage, and 34 playing in the 18 holes Spring Meeting played alongside the morning round of the Championship.

The Spring Meeting was won by 11 year old Amelia Wan from Rufford with a nett score of 68 playing off a handicap of 9, taking the prizes for both the 18 holes Spring Meeting Handicap and the 18 holes Spring Meeting Scratch with a Gross 77, plus The Stacey Scrimshaw Salver for 21 years and under. The 36 Holes Scratch was won by Lauren Spray (77 & 79) and the 36 Holes Handicap won by Lou Beaumont from Coxmoor, who also scored a nett 68 in the first round.

County Waltz 2018

WaltzWinnersThis year the County Waltz took place at Chilwell Manor Golf Club on 23rd April, on an overcast day with a breeze keeping temperatures down, but luckily no rain. 40 teams entered the competition, with the course proving to be a tough challenge for many of us. However, two teams stood out, the winners being Kath Else, Sue Taylor and Joanna Smith from Sherwood Forest GC with a great score of 72 points, followed in second place by Rosemary Lockwood, Clare Jones and Lindsay Curruthers from Beeston Fields GC with 70 points. In third place were Audrey MacMillan, Sue Lockwood and Debbie Knox from Norwood Park GC with 63 points, won on count back from Sue Nickless, Liz Martin and Jennifer of Southwell GC who took fourth place, also on count back from Colette Newton, Anne Harris and Jane Fowler of Notts Ladies GC taking fifth place.

The nearest the pin prizes were won by Linda Jackson on the 4th hole, Sharon Coyne 9th hole, Carol Bancroft 12th hole and Eva Glasby on the 15th. Well done to everyone that played and thank you for supporting the raffle. A good day was had by all;  thanks to volunteers from Chilwell Ladies, Marilyn, Kathryn, Marian and Roz, providing welcome refreshments in the new half way hut and after the golf Sally and her catering team serving an excellent meal.

Match v Sheffield Union 2018

Our annual match against the Sheffield Union was due to be played on 11th April but fell victim to the weather. Ironically, while the course was playable, fog and mist reduced visibility to the point where the match could not start despite having delayed our tee time. This was hugely disappointing for everyone as both teams were keen to get in some much needed competitive practice.

Sadly we were unable to rearrange the match despite our efforts to find an alternative date, so for the very first time the fixture will not take place this year. I would like to thank everyone for turning out and being understanding of the circumstances. Thanks also to Coxmoor Golf Club for their hospitality.

Glenys Priestley
County Captain

County President's Day 2017

CPD1The Inaugural County President’s Day was played at Sherwood Forest Golf Club on Monday 9 October to raise funds for County Match Week 2018, which is to be hosted by Notts County Ladies’ Golf Association. It was a lovely Autumnal day and the full field of 100 players enjoyed playing the course which was in immaculate condition. The format was a four-ball Stableford Am Am with 2 scores to count, 90% handicap. There were prizes for nearest the pin on all four short holes.

At the half-way house the players enjoyed a little break to eat delicious cakes and drink tea or coffee from china cups. After play, a buffet meal and sweet were enjoyed in the dining-room and raffle tickets were checked. The raffle table was fantastically well-laden with prizes provided by competitors and officials. Players were also able to enter a prize draw for a free four-ball at Sherwood Forest Golf Club and a prize draw for a free four-ball at Notts Golf Club, Hollinwell, as well as take part in the Putting Competition to get the ball nearest to the bottle using the whole length of the practice putting green.

NUGC Ladies' Annual Dinner

MainGuests2NCLGA President Maureen Clarke was a special guest of Notts Union President Bob Ward at the Ladies’ Annual Dinner which took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Nottingham, on Friday 12th January 2018 – the same night as the NUGC Annual Dinner.
Bob and Maureen welcomed many of the attendees to Afternoon Tea in advance of the Dinners. Presidents and Past Presidents from several English Counties were in attendance at the very popular and successful NUGC Annual Dinner, and many of their wives attended the Annual Ladies’ Dinner which was hosted by Maureen.

Maureen welcomed the ladies, and said how delighted she was to be Bob’s guest, to meet them all, and wished them a very enjoyable evening. After an excellent 3-course meal, Maureen introduced the Guest Speaker, Gaynor, from Burleigh’s Gin and Gin School 45 in Leicestershire. The ladies enjoyed an excellent talk on the History of Gin and were able to taste the new flavours of Gin that are now available. Bob provided all attendees with a gift – a miniature bottle of Gin! Everyone said how much they enjoyed the evening and Bob, Maureen and Mandy Bee (who had organised the Ladies’ Dinner) were thanked by Lynn Stubbings, wife of Midland Golf Union President, for a great evening. Maureen was presented with a huge bouquet of flowers.

Taskers Trophy Final 2017

taskers17aThe TaskersTrophy is an inter-club golf competition for the over fifties which is supporting junior golf in your county. The 2017 Final was played at Wollaton Park Golf Club on Sunday 8 October. It was a fine but somewhat windy day and players were warned about the Deer, with the Stags being in the rutting season.

In the final of the ladies’ Taskers event, Branston A played against Whittington Heath in order to win the Burtoft Trophy. The matches were well contested but Branston A ladies beat Whittington Heath ladies 6/1. The men’s Taskers Final and Plate were also played and the Hillsborough Team won the men’s Taskers and the Chevin B Team won the men’s Taskers Plate. The Taskers Plate is for all teams that get knocked out in the first round. If a few more ladies’ teams enter, the ladies will be able to have a ladies’ Plate competition as well.

Remarkable youngsters give golf a new voice

Golf Ambassadors 2018A group of 11 remarkable young people are set to give golf a fresh, new voice.
They are Young Ambassadors for England Golf and the Golf Foundation and through their own stories, enthusiasm and love of the sport, they will challenge negative perceptions and play a part in getting more people talking about and playing the game.
The ambassadors range in age from 10 to 22 and include school pupils, students, a volunteer coach, a trainee PGA professional, a would-be PE teacher and a trainee doctor. They’re all prepared to do what it takes to inspire others, whether it’s speaking at meetings, blogging or vlogging, getting involved with national campaigns or helping to organise events.
“They’re an amazing group,” said Lee Dolby, England Golf’s Young People Manager. “They’re bringing to life our Children and Young People’s Plan for Golf and helping us achieve our vision of inspiring a love of golf that lasts a lifetime.
“By sharing their stories they’ll help raise awareness of golf, show the positive impact of young people and prove that it’s a game for all.”
Alice Lowe, Golf Foundation Regional Development Officer and lead on volunteering, added: “Each member of the group is so enthusiastic about changing the negative perceptions of golf, and supporting our ambition to help young people enjoy the playing and personal benefits of golf by making it inclusive and fun.”

Junior Committee Job Roles

jobrolesflyer2017The NCLGA Junior Committee needs your help - our current Junior Coordinator is stepping down and we are looking for FOUR volunteers to each take on part of the role.

We now have nearly 80 juniors girls in the county so we have decided to spilt the role into four keys areas to spread out the workload. We hope that will increase the number of ladies out there who might come forward to help support our junior girls within the county.

Please highlight this to anyone you think might be interested or has the right skills to help out with any of the roles.

You can download a copy of the flyer here.
