English Women's Finals, Felixstowe 2017

Team17aCongratulations to our Notts Team who played so well at the English Women’s Finals at Felixstowe this year.

The week featured some amazing golf by all counties, with countless birdies, numerous eagles and two holes in one! It was a fantastic week of golf and our team deserves massive credit for playing so well against very stiff competition from the other counties. Congratulations to Yorkshire for taking the title this year and to all the Notts players for representing their county so well.

Ladies Interclub Final 2017

Interclub17aThe final of the Ladies Interclub was held at Wollaton Park on 11th September between last year’s winners, Retford and Trent Lock. It was an extremely windy cold day with a few sharp downpours which made conditions very testing for both teams. Nevertheless, some excellent golf was played in a match which was very close right to the end.

The first match featured Jean Stones and Jan Peters for Trent Lock playing against Debbie Rose and Keran Hutchinson from Retford. The match was all square until the 17th where Retford found a very wet bunker off the tee and lost the hole to go one down. A half on the 18th resulted in a win for Trent Lock 1-up. The second match was played by Tracey Krupa and Billie Major from Trent Lock against Pat Fox and Belinda Briggs from Retford. A very solid putt on the 16th green took Retford to 3-up and the match finished with halves on 17 and 18 giving Retford an overall win for the day of 2-up.

Congratulations to both teams for making the final and for battling the elements at Wollaton in an exciting final. The Interclub Trophy returns to Retford for another year.

Our thanks go to Wollaton Park for hosting the final and for looking after us so well during the day. Thanks also to President Maureen Clarke and to Lyndsay Carruthers for refereeing and to past president Joan Underwood for acting as starter.

2nd Team Home Match v Leicestershire 2017

LeicsHome17aThe final league match for the second team was held at Ruddington Grange on Thursday 3 August. We arrived under gloomy skies and tee off was greeted by squally showers. This didn't deter our team of Emma Anderson, Laura Abbott, Jacey Peacock, Wendy Kerry, Audrey Macmillan and Lorraine Howd, making her second team debut, who won the morning foursomes 2½ - ½.

The afternoon was much drier, although gusty winds gave more of an April feel to the day and made for tricky conditions. Maureen and I saw some great golf nevertheless, resulting in wins for Jacey, Emma & Lorraine, with a well fought half from Laura. The other two matches were closely fought both going to the 18th. Nottinghamshire won 6-3 overall. This result takes us through to the second team finals to be played at Worfield GC on Thursday 24th August.

Well done to today's team and everyone who has represented the County 2nd team this year.

English Women's Finals 2017

Felixstowe2Excitement is building in Notts as our County Team make their final preparations for the English Women’s Finals, taking place from 18th to 22nd September at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club, one of the oldest links courses in England, sited on the beautiful Suffolk coast.

Nottinghamshire will play against teams from Buckinghamshire, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Suffolk and Yorkshire. Each day will be played against a different county, playing three foursomes matches each morning and six singles each afternoon, with the winner of the week claiming the title. Our team were successful in winning the England Finals in 2015 and will be trying very hard to achieve the same result this year. I am delighted to confirm the team as follows:
Emma Anderson (Sherwood Forest), Rachel Boulton (Springwater), Emily Cheshire (Notts Ladies), Caron Harrison (Sherwood Forest), Carol Houghton (The Nottinghamshire), Emma Howie (Stanton on the Wolds), Libby Kilbride (Worksop), Kristina Lazarevic (Notts Ladies), Lauren Spray (Notts Ladies), Carol Wild (Notts Ladies) and Glenys Priestley (Reserve – Notts Ladies)

We have a great mix of youth and experience and I am very excited to captain the team in this prestigious tournament. We would love to see lots of Nottinghamshire support at Felixstowe and I know that many have already booked accommodation there. A great excuse for a few days at the seaside and to see some excellent golf being played!

County Captain's Day Am-Am 2017

marquee500Beeston Fields was the venue for this year’s County Captain’s Day on Monday 24th July. The day started with cool grey clouds before the sun came out in the afternoon to provide a lovely setting for the day.
A full field of 160 ladies from a wide cross-section of clubs in the county played in the AM-AM, with some excellent scores recorded on the day. Our thanks must go to Beeston for presenting the course in such wonderful condition, not an easy task for a competition held first thing on a Monday morning after a wet and windy weekend!
The half-way house at the top of the 10th hole provided a welcome break for our players who enjoyed some wonderful cakes and a cup of tea. Many thanks to Trent Marquees for providing the beautiful marquee for the day and to all the bakers in the county who made such delicious cakes – what fantastic talent we have in the county!

CCDwinners17aThe competition was won by a team from Ruddington Grange with a magnificent 90 points. Angela Picker, Wendy Kerry, Lorraine Howd and Josie Connolly played some excellent golf to win by a clear three points over the second place team from The Nottinghamshire – Carol Houghton, Lesley Morris, Helen Haycox and Dawn Frith.
In third place, on the back nine with 85 points was the Trent Lock team of Jean Stones, Tracey Krupa, Wendy Adcock and Anne Gray. And in fourth place the Chilwell team of Julie Griffiths, Sue Cobb, Sadie Brodniewska and Teresa Nightingale.

Autumn Meeting 2017

It was a bright sunny day for our final county competition of the season and 51 players took part in the Autumn Meeting at Chilwell Manor Golf Club on Monday 4th September. The course was in excellent condition with some very testing pin positions which made the greens quite testing. Some excellent scores were recorded, with Caron Harrison from Sherwood Forest winning both Scratch and Nett prizes. Her gross 73 broke the course record at Chilwell, previously held by Alex Peters with 75. Many congratulations to Caron for an excellent score! The CSS for the day was 73.

At this competition, in addition to the results for the Autumn Meeting, aggregate prizes are awarded for the combined gross and nett scores for both Autumn and Summer Meetings.

I would like to record my thanks to Chilwell Manor for looking after us all so well and for presenting the course in such great condition. This was the final competition to be run by our hard working competition secretaries Colette Newton and Jane Fowler before they resign from the NCLGA Executive in November. Very many thanks to them both for all their hard work today and over the years – they have done an exceptional job, dealing efficiently with all the competition entries and results – and always with a smile. We shall miss them hugely!

2nd Team Away Match v Leicestershire 2017

LeicsAway17aWe arrived for our away match v Leicestershire, at Cosby on 23rd July, under a gloomy sky, after heavy rain and donned our waterproofs for the morning foursomes. Luckily the weather did brighten up and although none of the Nottinghamshire team had played at Cosby before, the morning session was won 2-1.

However, our spirits were dampened in the singles, not by the weather I hasten to add, but by some great golf from the Leicestershire ladies. Playing only her first second team match Wendy Kerry managed a creditable win but unfortunately the team went down fighting, the final result being 6-3 to Leicestershire.

Onwards and upwards though and we now look forward to the return match at Ruddington on 3rd August with all to play for. The team was Kristina Lazarevic, Jacey Peacock, both of whom were awarded their second team colours, Vicki Johnson, Louise Wilding, Leone Muir and Wendy Kerry.

2nd Team Final 2017 v Derbyshire

teamfinal17bAfter completion of our matches against Lincolnshire and Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire qualified for the Regional Final. This year it was played at Worfield Golf Club, Shropshire, on Thursday 24th August, where we played Derbyshire, who qualified after their matches against Staffordshire and Shropshire. There was an autumnal feel in the air when we arrived in the morning for our foursomes, although thankfully it was dry.

Our girls played some very good golf but the greens proved to be very slick and we were 2 - 1 down after the morning matches. Our team rallied in the singles and we saw some exciting golf, with Vicki Johnson securing an early win to level the scores. Jacey Peacock had the toughest match of the afternoon against a very experienced Derbyshire player but, despite battling hard, Derbyshire won the match regaining the lead. All four remaining games went to the 18th, Louise Wilding losing 1 down despite some great golf, Kristina earned a well fought half, with wins for Wendy Kerry and Emma Anderson.

We went down fighting with the result ending as 4½ each, only missing out on countback of games won, proving again that golf is a game of fine margins! Congratulations to Derbyshire on winning the trophy.

2nd Team Home Match v Lincolnshire 2017

LincsHome17aOur home match against Lincolnshire was held at Norwood Park Golf Club on 19th July.
After the morning foursomes Nottinghamshire were 2-1 down, the win coming from two rookies Jo Hopkins and Audrey Macmillan both no strangers to the course. The team went into the afternoon singles with determination as shown by Jacey Peacock and Assistant Vice-Captain Carol Houghton winning by the 14th. I think they both wanted to get in early to miss the threatened thunder storms!! Our other rookie of the day, Louise Wilding, won her match leaving the score at 4-3.

In true Nottinghamshire style, we came through with a final result of 5½ - 3½ to Nottinghamshire, Kristina Lazarevic winning a tight match on the 17th.

Our next match is away v Leicestershire at Cosby on Sunday 23rd July.
