Updated Situation due to Covid-19

Once again, and with great regret, following the ongoing very worrying situation and in line with the policy taken by NUGC, we have decided to cancel any NCLGA Ladies or Junior Girls competitions until at least the 8th of June 2020.
We have also taken the difficult decision to cancel the Scratch, Silver and Bronze league competitions and the Ladies Interclub for 2020. It may not be possible to rearrange them at all towards the end of this year even if we are given the all clear by the Government - which is looking increasingly unlikely. However, this will give us the opportunity to look at the current league formats in conjunction with the WHS, with this in mind we can then review the current situation thoroughly and may be able to announce an improved new league format and competition for 2021.
Please apply by email to Jenny Smith, via her contact form, with your sort code and account number, for any applicable refunds. If you prefer to receive your refund by cheque, please include your address. The refunds will be made as soon as possible.
Again I must stress that as an organisation we must take the health of our members seriously. The committee will continue to review this ever changing situation and keep you informed of any new decisions that are made.
The executive committee and I hope that all the ladies in the county will continue to stay safe and keep well.
With best wishes in these difficult times.

Competition Suspension March/April 2020

To all NCLGA Ladies

It is with great regret that we have taken the decision to cancel all NCLGA competitions that are due to take place from now until the end of April, specifically the Junior Mixed Am-Am and the County Waltz. There will be refunds for the County Waltz and the Junior Am-Am and to arrange these please email Jenny Smith via her contact form, with your sort code and account no. If you prefer to receive your refund by cheque, please include your address. The refunds will be made as soon as possible.

As an organisation we must take the health of our members seriously and so we will follow the latest Government guidelines. The committee will review the situation towards the end of April and then provide a further update regarding competitions that are due to take place in May.

League matches should be suspended until further notice. If these can be resumed and rearranged towards the end of the year, all clubs will maintain their current league places – that is there will be no promotions or demotions.
The executive committee and I hope that all the ladies in the county will stay safe and keep well.

With best wishes

Taskers Trophy - Supporting Junior Golf

The 2019 Final was played at Beeston Fields Golf Club on Sunday 29 September. It was a very rainy day with some finer weather at times. In the final of the ladies’ Taskers event, the Ian Bartoft Trophy, Beauchief A beat Little Aston A 5½ to 1½. The men’s Taskers Final and Plate were also played and Hillsborough A beat Mapperley F 5 to 2 in the Taskers Final and Ormonde Fields B beat Uttoxeter A in the Taskers Plate. NCLGA received a donation commensurate to the number of ladies’ teams entered; 15 ladies teams entered and this resulted in NCLGA receiving a donation of £750.

I would like to encourage all Clubs to enter as many ladies’ teams as they can. It is a great event to play in because teams have the opportunity and pleasure of playing other teams from other courses in this County and the surrounding Counties. It’s a win, win situation and. if more ladies’ teams enter from Nottinghamshire, more money will be received by our County Junior Girls at the end of the year.

Before the Presentation all the teams, their supporters and County Officials were treated to an excellent roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, sticky toffee pudding, ice cream and coffee. After the prize-giving the County Presidents received the donation to their County Juniors and said a few words of thanks to the Crawfords for their sponsorship and excellent organisation of the event. Beeston Fields were to be congratulated on providing a great venue and keeping the course playable in spite of heavy rain at times.

Thank You from Maureen

Maureen cakeThank you to the County Committee, especially Di Payne and Audrey MacMillan, for organising such a wonderful afternoon tea party for my 80th birthday. Thank you to all that attended and to all clubs that donated. My house is full of lovely flowers, plants, bottles, and cards, as well as balloons. I will always have great memories of a lovely day meeting with you all and enjoying your company. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. I thank Sherwood Forest golf Club Chef, Craig, and the staff for serving a delicious afternoon tea, and Di McMurdo for the special golfer's birthday cake. I take this opportunity to wish all the NCLGA Officials and county teams great success in 2020.

Afternoon Tea Celebration for Maureen Clarke

Maureen JuniorsLadies from the NCLGA had a great get together at Sherwood Forest Golf Club on Sunday the 26th January to help celebrate the 80th birthday of Maureen Clarke our recently retired President. This special event was organised on behalf of the county by Di Payne (County Vice-Captain) and Audrey MacMillan (County Assistant Vice-Captain) – good job ladies!
Sherwood Forest Golf Club served a magnificent afternoon tea and all present had a wonderful afternoon of fellowship. Many of those present enjoyed it so much that it was suggested that perhaps an afternoon tea could become an annual event to get different members of the NCLGA together at the beginning of the year.
Eva Glasby our new President proposed a toast which was followed by all present wishing Maureen a happy birthday in song. Of course, Maureen had some words to share with all and she very kindly presented all who attended with a small gift. It was a wonderful afternoon much enjoyed by all – a real winter warmer on a dull January day which will have given Maureen some lovely memories.
Happy Birthday Maureen and thank you for all your hard work over the years – we look forward to seeing you on the course in 2020 when you are supporting, playing and refereeing.

Second Team Finals 2019

Seconds FinalaOn Monday the 2nd September the County 2nd team went to Walsall Golf Club in Staffordshire to play Staffordshire in the Midlands North Final. The weather was set fair and the course was well established parkland. We were of course anticipating a tough contest, and we were not wrong!

The morning foursomes went well and we managed to get 2 out of the 3 points on offer – these were gained by Emma Anderson playing with Carol Houghton and Louise Wilding who played with Ava Waplington. Of course we were delighted to find ourselves in this position after the morning, but knew that Staffordshire would be all out for a win in the afternoon. The afternoon matches got off to a very good start with Carol Houghton delivering the first point shortly followed by Audrey MacMillan who also had a good win. Emma Anderson had a tough match and fought hard to the bitter end despite having to have a first aid break as she had played a shot whilst being knee deep in nettles! Her match went to all square going down the 18th and she achieved a creditable half. This left us 4 and a half points each with one match to finish.

County President's Day 2019

Presidents 2019aCounty President’s Day 2019 was played at Wollaton Park Golf Club on Monday 7 October, to raise funds for the NCLGA County Teams. The weather forecast was horrendous but fortunately it did not turn out as predicted. The drizzle dried up and most competitors were able to play without getting wet. Sadly, the rain did come back later for the players near the end of the field. The format was a four-ball Stableford Am Am with 2 scores to count, 90% handicap. There were prizes for nearest the pin on all five short holes, a Putting Competition over 6 holes, a prize draw for free four balls, and a raffle. At the half-way house the players enjoyed a little break to have a drink and eat delicious cakes. After play, a buffet meal and sweet were enjoyed in the dining-room.

The prize-winners were:
First Place: Jean Stones, Zandra Alexander, Pam Orton, and Jane Morton from Coxmoor Golf Club with 83 points winning on the back nine with 47 points.
Second Place: Caroline Hart, Lily Hurley, Cheryl Slade, and Jane Burgin from Wollaton Park Golf Club with 83 points with a back nine of 42 points.
Third Place: Sandra Beckett, Clare Wilson, Audrey MacMillan, and Eithne Williams from Norwood Park Golf Club with 81 points.
Fourth Place: Jean Durbin, Pam Loch, Jo Hopkins and Janet Slater from Notts Ladies’ Golf Club with 80 points winning on the back nine with 40 points.

2nd Team Away Match v Leics

LeicsA19aThursday 6th August saw us playing away at Willesley Park against Leicestershire. A beautiful venue, but a very challenging course with lots of blind holes. We managed to get 1 point in the morning foursomes – this was gained by Emma Anderson and Carol Houghton. There were some very tight matches which went all the way to the 18th, the other foursomes pairings were Louise Wilding playing with Lizzie Wood and Jacey Peacock who played with Audrey MacMillan.

Having just gained the one point in the morning we needed to secure at least 2 and a half more in the afternoon – we actually managed to gain 3 points the successful players being Emma Anderson, Carol Houghton and Audrey MacMillan. This has enabled the County 2nd team to go forward to the Second team finals which will be held at Walsall Golf Club on the 2nd of September. Our opposition will be Staffordshire.
