2nd Team Matches v Lincs & Leics

Notts 2nds 3aOn Wednesday 25th July we played Lincolnshire at Ashby Decoy Golf Club, near Scunthorpe. A very tricky course with accuracy off the tee required. We were down in the morning foursomes 2-1 with Louise Wilding and Lou Beaumont continuing their good partnership and getting a point. Emma Anderson and Louise Wilding gained wins in the afternoon, but a solid performance from an experienced Lincolnshire team resulted in a 6-3 away loss.
Thanks to the team that day of Emma Anderson, Jacey Peacock, Louise Wilding, Lou Beaumont, Caron Harrison and Sarah Riddell.

Notts 2nds 4aOn Monday 30th July, Radcliffe-on-Trent Golf Club played host for our last match this season, against Leicestershire. Unfortunately we were down 2-1 in the morning foursomes, with a point for Caron Harrison and Carol Houghton. There were some tough matches in the afternoon and some great golf. However, Leicestershire were the better team on the day and gained a 6½-2½ win.
Thanks to all the players that day, Carol Houghton, Caron Harrison, Louise Wilding, Jacey Peacock, Emma Anderson, Wendy Kerry.
Thank you also to the second team vice-captain, Helen Haycox for all her support on match days.

County Captain's Day Am-Am 2018

This year County Captains Day was held at Notts Golf Club (Hollinwell) on Monday 23rd July, a bright sunny day, with hardly a cloud in the sky, temperatures rising steadily through the day. 160 ladies took part in the competition representing 15 clubs in the County. Thanks to the groundstaff for preparing the course in great condition considering the long spell of hot dry weather we have been having.

Very welcome refreshments were served in the halfway house, (Hollinwell Halt), by Notts Ladies President, Dot and other Notts Ladies members during the day (Rita, Pat, Lady Captain Jo and Judith). Yet again the ladies from around the County had been baking over the weekend, with the players being treated to some fantastic cakes, providing sustenance for the challenging back nine holes in what was, by then, quite stifling conditions. Thank you to them all.

A team from Stanton, Margaret Ferguson, Kath Oscroft, Kay Wakefield and late substitute, Ellen Manton, in first place with a great score of 89 points, 3 points clear of last years’ winners, Angela Picker, Wendy Kerry, Lorraine Howd & Sally McGarvey, (Ruddington) in second. The next three teams all had 85 points, Louise Wilding, Mel Prime, Lou Beaumont & Di Toyn, (Coxmoor), taking third spot on the back nine from another Stanton team of Jane Gilmore, Pamela Kissman, Zoe Scott & Elaine Shelton. In fifth place was a home team of Carol Wild, Rosemary Whitehouse, Sheila Gretton and Pauline Tilcock.

We will play a different county each day, three foursomes matches in the morning and six singles each afternoon, with the overall winner declared at the end of the week and going forward to play in the National County Finals in September against the winners of the other five regional tournaments.
Nottinghamshire are defending the trophy won last year at Matlock taking us through to the County Finals which was held at Felixstowe. We are all looking forward to another great week which is sure to be very competitive and exciting to watch. It’s always good to see Nottinghamshire supporters behind us and it would be fantastic to see you all there.

2nd Team Matches v Leics & Lincs

Notts 2nds 1aAs ever, the second team county matches come round in a hurry after County Week.
On Sunday 15th July we played Leicestershire at Rothley Park Golf Club. A scorcher of a day, with all the foursomes going to the 18th hole and all the singles matches finishing at the 17th. Lou Beaumont, making her debut picked up a point and a half, however home advantage meant a 7-2 win to Leicestershire. Thanks to the team that day of Emma Anderson, Jacey Peacock, Louise Wilding, Lou Beaumont, Audrey MacMillian and Carol Houghton.

Notts 2nds 2aTwo days later The Nottinghamshire played host for the match against Lincolnshire. Thankfully it was a slightly cooler day. We even needed our new summer sweaters, sponsored by Acorn Windows.
With Lincolnshire in the lead in the clubhouse, we needed two wins in the last two matches in the singles to secure the win. The Ruddington pair of Wendy Kerry and Loraine Howd pulled it out the bag, and we secured the win 5-4. A great team effort, with everyone winning a point for the team. Thanks to all the players that day, Carol Houghton, Louise Wilding, Sarah Riddell, Emma Anderson, Wendy Kerry and Loraine Howd.
Onward to the final two matches away to Lincolnshire at Ashby Decoy on 25th July and the final home match at Radcliffe on 30th July v Leicestershire.

Coronation Cups 2018

The Coronation Cups 4 ball better ball competition was held at Newark Golf Club on Monday 4th June with over 90 ladies taking part this year, representing 17 clubs from across the County. We received a warm welcome from the Lady Captain Josie Wake along with two willing gentlemen starters. The weather for the day was overcast, nothing like the recent sunny weather, with many ladies pulling on waterproofs and jumpers to keep out the chill breeze.

Nevertheless some excellent golf was played with great scoring, the winners being Lynne Inman & Claire Wilson from Norwood Park with 46 points, on countback from Pam Hayes & Aileen Kynoch (The Nottinghamshire) in second place. In third with 41 points were Bernie Barton & Alison Harold also from The Nottinghamshire, again on countback from Rina Ozolins & Alison Hartley, both from Newark. Rina was following on from her recent win in the NUGC mixed 4 ball better ball.

The Coronation Cups will be presented to the winners at the County AGM in November. Many thanks to all at Newark Golf Club for hosting the competition and for their support of NCLGA. Thanks also to Julia Warrener for organising the competition and running the day so efficiently.

Summer & Veterans Meeting 2018

The County Summer Meeting this year took place at Beeston Fields Golf Club on Monday 2nd July, with 53 ladies taking part. The course was in good condition considering the long hot dry spelll we have had. As always the greens at Beeston were quite tricky, with the breeze also making conditions quite testing, however the breeze was very welcome, keeping temperatures down a little in the scorching sunshine.

Thanks to Beeston Fields Lady Captain, Annette Amery and her team in getting the competitors underway promptly and, despite the heat, there was some very good golf played. Congratulations to the winner of the Jubilee Bowl Scratch Trophy, Louise Wilding, Coxmoor with a gross 81 and the winner of the Jubileee Bowl Handicap Trophy, Wendy Kerry, Ruddington Grange, with a nett 71, on countback from Lindsay Carruthers, playing on her home course, taking the Challenge Cup.

The Gill Shawcross Scratch Cup was won by Pam Loch, Notts Ladies, with a gross 82 and the Dorothy Payne Cup was won by Sandra Beckett with a nett 73. Margaret Thorpe also with a nett 73 was the Division 2 winner.

Congratulations to all the Trophy and Prize winners. Trophies will be presented to the winners at our AGM in November. Many thanks to all at Beeston Fields Golf Club for hosting the event and for their support of NCLGA.

County Mixed Pairs 2018

MixedWinners78 pairs entered the competition and the scoring was of a high quality. The course was in immaculate condition and befits its championship standard. The players were very complimentary and were delighted for the way it was set up for a field of mixed handicaps.
Graeme Macdonald the Head Green Keeper at Newark Golf Club ran out the winner with his late replacement partner Rina Ozolins, also from Newark, scoring an impressive 47 points in the better ball stableford format. Runners up with 44 points, winning on the back 9, were Rushcliffe man and wife pair of Jean and John Makin, while in third spot from The Nottinghamshire were Reg Lumbis and Helen Haycox with 44 points.

Many thanks to Coxmoor Golf Club for hosting the event; the golf club is already very busy with the English Seniors Championship taking place in early June and the England Golf 10 counties regional qualifier in the middle of June, they are also building a new clubhouse which is due for competition in December. Next year’s event takes place at Newark Golf Club and we are sure Graeme will want to defend his title on his home course.

English Senior Women's Amateur Championships

Carol WCongratulations to Carol Wild (Notts Ladies GC) on winning the Anne Howard Trophy at the English Seniors Amateur Championship played at the Hallamshire this week, 14-18 May 2018.

Carol qualified as one of the 16 lowest scores after the two 18 hole stroke play rounds on Monday 14th & Tuesday 15th May. Sue Penfold (Sherwood Forest) also qualified for the match-play losing out to Carol in the semi-final played on Thursday afternoon. Carol beat Pat Wrightson (Huddersfield GC) 7&6 in the final which was played on Friday.

Very well done to both ladies and also to Carol Houghton, NCLGA Vice-Captain, who qualified for the knock-out stage of the Wendy Taylor Trophy, unfortunately losing out to Tracey Williamson (Royal Cromer GC) at the first hurdle.

What talent we have in Nottinghamshire. On behalf of all players from Nottinghamshire well done to all our competitors but especially Carol on such a great achievement.
