County Clubs Shortlisted for EG Award

A shortlist of remarkable finalists has been announced for the England Golf Awards 2019, sponsored by Adidas Golf.

They’re the heroes of the game in England and they’ll be celebrated at the awards dinner at the Royal Lancaster London on Thursday, 21 March, when the winners will be revealed. Nick Pink, England Golf Chief Executive, said: “A very big thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate and to the judges, who had an incredibly difficult job to produce this shortlist of amazing volunteers, players, clubs and counties."

Two Nottinghamshire clubs, Sherwood Forest and Stanton on the Wolds, have been shortlisted in the category 'Championship Venue of the Year'. Well done to both clubs on their nominations and we wish them both luck when the winners are announced in March. They will be up against Kedleston Park and Frilford Heath in this category.

Ladies Interclub Final 2018

Interclub winners 1The Ladies Interclub Final was held at Stanton On The Wolds Golf Club on Monday 10th September between Rudd ington and Mapperley. The final started in overcast and fairly blustery conditions, however this didn’t deter the determination of both teams who fought well throughout the matches. The greens as usual were in excellent condition and proved to be quite tricky in the wind, thank you to Stanton Golf Club and their members for their hospitality and for giving us courtesy of the course. Thank you also to Lindsay Carruthers and Val Peet who refereed the matches. Both teams were very well supported by members from their clubs.

The first match was between Karen Ward and Katie White from Mapperley playing against Wendy Kerry and Jane Smeeton from Ruddington. Wendy and Jane, who fought their way back from 3 down after 11 holes, made birdie at the 15th which took the match back to all square and this was how the match ended. The second match was Jane Baxter and Maggie Burrows from Mapperley against Carol Bowles and Sheila Drummond from Ruddington. We again saw some very good golf with Carol and Sheila winning a hard fought match 3up.

The England Golf President Desmond Duffy and Presidents and Past Presidents from many Counties attended the very popular NU Dinner. The Presidents’ wives were welcomed to the NU Ladies’ Dinner by Maureen, and after an excellent meal Maureen introduced the guest speaker Jan Palmer who gave an interesting talk about the History of Soap and the aromatics she uses in making natural soaps. Bob provided a beautifully wrapped gift of natural soaps for each lady, and a bouquet of flowers for Maureen. A vote of thanks was given by Mavis Peplow, Midland Golf Union President’s Lady.

Autumn Meeting 2018

The County Autumn Meeting was held at Norwood Park Golf Club on Monday 3rd September, with 35 ladies taking part. One noteable absentee was our President, Maureen Clarke, who unfortunately had a puncture on route and was unable to play. It was a lovely sunny morning to begin the day, with hardly any wind, the course was in good condition, particularly the greens, where we were soon to find out the ground staff had set some very testing pin positions, making things difficult for some of us! Despite this there was still some excellent golf played by the ladies.

Congratulations to the winner of the Challenge Bowl Scratch Trophy, Di Payne with a gross 82 and to the winner of the Challenge Bowl Handicap Trophy, Ellen Sanderson, playing in her first County event, with nett 73 on countback. In second place was Jan Hooley, followed by Gillian Stump in third again on countback. Unfortunately Eithne Williams, also with a nett 73 on countback, missing out on the prizes in fourth place. Charlie Hall with a nett 76, was the Division 2 winner. The home team from Norwood Park were the winners of the Jubilee Shield team trophy with a total of 295.
