2nd Team Home Match v Lincs

On a blistering hot Tuesday the 23rd July the second team played Lincolnshire at the Rufford Park Golf and Country Club. The course was in wonderful condition and the hospitality shown to us by Rufford Park was impeccable.

The morning foursomes got us off to a very good start as we won all three matches. Louise Wilding and Lizzie Wood once again showed their reliability as a solid foursomes pairing. Also representing Notts in foursomes were the pairings of Jacey Peacock playing with Kristina Larazevic and Emma Anderson who played with Jan Hiken. Full of optimism we approached the afternoon singles, but of course Lincolnshire fought back hard! The afternoon session gained us 2 and a half points. The half point was gained by rookie Ava Waplington – we were all thrilled that she managed this on her debut. The other points were gained by Emma Anderson and Jacey Peacock. This gave us an overall and very pleasing result of 5½ to 3½. The half point may become very important as we lost our away match to Lincolnshire by 4 points to 5.

County Matches 2019

Team 2019aThe 2019 County Matches are taking place this week (24th - 26th June) at the Shropshire Golf Centre near Telford in Shropshire.

It was a great first day for Notts with a 4-1 win against Leicestershire in the morning. With wins for Esme Hamilton and Libby Kilbride in the singles and Vicki Johnson with Caron Harrison and Rachael Bolton with Jodie Peacock in the foursomes.

Then a halved match in the afternoon against Lincolnshire with wins for Libby Kilbride in the singles, and Rachael Bolton and Jodie Peacock in the foursomes. With the half secured by Lauren Spray on the final hole.

The bad weather meant the second day morning matches had to be stopped after the first few holes. Play re-started at 2pm for Notts v Derbyshire. In what is a very competitive matchup, Notts got the early points on the board from Rachael Bolton and Jodie Peacock, continuing their winning ways in the foursomes and a win for Esme Hamilton on the 15th in the singles. With three matches in the balance Derbyshire managed to pull off the closest of wins. Unlucky Notts losing out 3-2.

Recommendations for Inclement Weather

Because of situations arising due to the recent spell of very wet weather the NCLGA Executive Committee felt it was necessary to make some recommendations to advise clubs on procedures with regard to postponements, suspensions and resumptions of play in the case of matches affected by inclement weather. The following apply to both the NCLGA League and Interclub Matches:

If a course is closed or unplayable then the match should be re-arranged as soon as possible and in good time before the deadline/next round. (e.g. end of September for scratch, silver and bronze leagues and before the next round of the interclub).
In extremely inclement conditions, the two team captains may agree to play the match over fewer holes as long as both are in agreement and it is decided before the match commences.
If conditions worsen once play has commenced, and the match has to be suspended, it should resume from where it was suspended either on the same day or on another day. The result of completed matches should stand as played and uncompleted matches should be continued at a later time or date. Any matches that cannot be completed as scheduled should be considered tied.
If any matches have to be completed on another day each team is free to alter its original team.

2nd Team Home Match v Leics

LeicsH19aThe second team played Leicestershire at the Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club on Tuesday 9th July. The Championship Course at the Nottinghamshire was in very good condition and it is fair to say that the Leicestershire players were very impressed with it.

The morning foursomes finished with Notts 2-1 up. Louise Wilding and Lizzie Wood once again gained a point for us, this was backed up by Carol Houghton and Emma Anderson. It was nice to go into the afternoon singles matches with the advantage and we gained 4 more points in the singles. This gave us an overall and very pleasing result of 6 – 3 with points being gained by Jan Hiken, Jacey Peacock (half), Emma Anderson, Carol Houghton and Louise Wilding (half). Our ‘rookie’ Lesley Morris had a great day and enjoyed her first experience of county golf.

Many thanks to the team that day of Emma Anderson, Jan Hiken, Carol Houghton, Lesley Morris, Jacey Peacock, Louise Wilding and Lizzie Wood, once again not forgetting the assistance of Di Payne who offered many words of support to us all!

2nd Team v Lincolnshire at Elsham

LincsA19Our first second team match this year took place at Elsham Golf Club on Wednesday 4th July. Our opponents were Lincolnshire – always tricky!

Elsham is a beautiful parkland course and was appreciated by all. The morning foursomes finished with us being 2-1 down, Louise Wilding and Lizzie Wood secured a valuable point for us. The afternoon matches went to the wire. We were all waiting for the last match to finish to see which way the result would go but this was lost on the 18th however, a valiant effort was made by Audrey MacMillan against Lincolnshire’s strongest player. Carol Houghton, Louise Wilding and Jan Hiken won their matches giving us a final result of 5 – 4 in Lincolnshire’s favour, a close result.

Many thanks to the team that day of Jan Hiken, Carol Houghton, Audrey MacMillan, Jacey Peacock, Louise Wilding and Lizzie Wood, also not forgetting the assistance of Di Payne who kept the team well watered and fed!

Success at the English Seniors!

Carol Wild 19aWell done to Carol Wild of Notts Ladies for retaining her Ann Howard title at the English Senior Championships held at Enville Golf Club on 17th May 2019. Carol was defending her title after her success at The Hallamshire last year. Carol qualified second after two rounds of strokeplay, along with Sue Penfold from Sherwood. After meeting Sue in the quarter-finals, Carol went on to beat Rosie Waller, in the semi’s and came out on top in a great final, on the 18th, against Sheree Dove-Wilde, 1up.

Carol Houghton, our County Captain, made it through to the knockouts after finishing 16th in the strokeplay in the Wendy Taylor Flight. Carol went on to win a tight first round match on the 19th, making it through to the last 16. Unfortunately, then losing in the next round to Amanda Mayne.

Congratulations to all our Nottinghamshire ladies taking part at Enville and good luck to those going down to St Endoc Golf Club to play their next English Seniors event organised by England Golf.
